Suspected Armed ‘Balalo’ Cattle-keepers Threaten Invade Pader

An influx of armed Balalo herdsmen is reportedly threatening security and interrupting farming activities in Angagura and Atanga sub counties in Pader district.

 

The inhabitants of the area accuse the cattle-keeping community of tramping and grazing their animals on crop gardens in the contested area without any restrains.

 

Angagura LC III Chairman, Livingstone Akura says the residents are under continuous harassment from both the army and herdsmen who have excessively combative tendencies.

 

An investigation team sent by Acholi Paramount Chief, David Onen Acana II to the ranch following recurring complaints about the illegal activities in the ranch were also held hostage by UPDF soldiers at a roadblock as they inspected the area.

 

Headed by the Nwoya District Land Board Chairman, Zeru Abuka, the team acknowledged that crops were being destroyed and that vehicles being driven in people’s gardens across at least 10 parishes.
